Overview of Madison Suburb
This is the suburban area of Madison which is a dream neighborhood because of the great schools, low taxes, friendly residents, and proximity to downtown shopping, cafes, and other amenities, which makes it an appealing place to raise children. It has relatively affordable housing, but can be on the more pricey side of Madison real estate. It is a planned community that was built in 1976 to meet the growing demand for new houses due to the growth of population at this time. Ten different house plans were developed for this project by architect, Gerald C. Wellington, still an active member of Madison living in the prestigious Shorewood Hills area. All houses have the same exterior and look quite similar, therefore it is a real cookie-cutter neighborhood, but the residents here seem to like it that way. The area is home to three of the seven schools in the Madison Central School District, all located on Laurel Loop. All of the streets were named after trees, except for Madison Avenue which leads to the downtown area of Maple Bluff and contains several shopping centers and restaurants.
